Mainstream Conference

The world has changed. Businesses are demanding. New leadership styles, new technologies and global standards are emerging. And the big Asset Management shift is on. Maintenance and Reliability have moved beyond their operational role and are fast transforming into a core, focused, and disciplined strategic business function. People, technology and new standards are the essential enablers of this transformation which is why the Mainstream program has evolved and progressed to be a celebration of the leadership, technology, ideas, and innovations that are literally transforming Asset Management in Australia.

Putting a ladder on top of a banana-peel to avoid somebody falling over it, is probably not the most efficient solution. But it's weird that you can find several ladders (rules, systems, habits, ...) in almost every organisation. The ladders had an added value in the past but are not relevant anymore in this changing world. But a lot of...

Executive Panel – How to Make Reliability Equal Profitability

We are operating in a world of ageing assets, capital constraints and changes in monitoring and maintenance models. We are trying to extend asset life and reduce costs – but does the business understand the implications of that? And is it even possible? Join accomplished executive manager Bob DiStefano with nearly 40 years of professional engineering, maintenance, reliability, management and consulting experience. Bob will lead a discussion on how senior asset management leaders need to understand how their direct efforts influence the ultimate profitability of the company. Armed with this knowledge they can build a compelling business case for asset reliability that will enable them to garner buy-in and support of site and corporate leadership. The fact is we rely on our assets to make money. But how do we begin to disrupt the mindset that asset management simply equals maintenance? How do we make asset management the value proposition that we know it needs to be? How can we maximise asset performance through stakeholder engagement, operational excellence and reliability?

Communicating and Enabling Change in Your Maintenance Organisation

After several failed change process efforts, Kevin designed a strategy to successfully implemented change.  By understanding the four phases of change and how to communicate using the three voices of change they were able to make their team receptive.  Kevin used five key enablers - vision, skills, incentives, resources, and action plans - to implement a system to assess the health of the maintenance organization across 12 sites. Hear how recognizing how the people in your organization affected by a change are feeling (and then by responding accordingly!) will enable you to successfully manage lasting change. Kevin has been in Engineering and Maintenance for 35 years: moving from plant engineer to maintenance supervisor to maintenance superintendent to engineering manager, and finally as a corporate strategic asset planning manager.  Kevin audited how well the North American breweries at Anheuser-Busch planned, scheduled, executed, and followed up on maintenance.  He is a Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional.  He is now applying the same principles at Monsanto to elevate their maintenance organization to World Class.  Kevin has made many mistakes along the way but has learned from every one of them and his mission is to help others avoid some of the mistakes he has made.

Turn Your Problems Into Opportunities: Survival Kit for Changing Times

Putting a ladder on top of a banana-peel to avoid somebody falling over it, is probably not the most efficient solution. But it's weird that you can find several ladders (rules, systems, habits, ...) in almost every organisation. The ladders had an added value in the past but are not relevant anymore in this changing world. But a lot of times, we don't dare to get rid of those ladders because we're afraid of change. Discover how you can turn problems into opportunities. Learn methods to explore the world from different perspectives. Get inspired by several tailor-made examples and stories and experience the power of thinking in a ‘Yes and Act’-mindset.

  • YES - Suspend your judgement. Believe.
  • AND - Explore alternative views. Imagine.
  • ACT - Get into action. Experiment.
Cyriel will show you how to: get in the right mindset for change, learn to suspend your judgment, triple the number of ideas that you’re having and dare to fail more to get more. Cyriel Kortleven has been working in the domain of creativity and innovation for more than 15 years. He stimulates people to break their fixed thinking patterns and inspires with creative skills and examples on how to gain more with less. Through his playful and enthusiastic attitude to life, he creates an open and informal atmosphere for creativity and innovation.

Drone Technology, Thermal Imaging & 3D Mapping – Game Changers for Asset Managers

When new technologies make bold promises, how do you discern the hype from what's commercially viable? In this fascinating interactive session, John will demo two technologies currently being utilised – both are game changers for Asset Managers.

  • Drone technology used for inspections, thermal imaging and 3D mapping. Hear and see how drones are changing the way condition monitoring data is being collected and how that information is impacting Asset Management
  • 3D Gantt visualisation and live field updating to significantly improve the quality of data used for scheduling large and complex Shutdowns
Using the Gartner Hype Principle, John will guide you through case studies and show you examples of how cutting edge technology is transforming asset management - as opposed to just being tech hype!

Applying ISO 55000 Beyond Just Asset Management – Developing Strategy in Operations and Supply

Is asset management about maintenance management? Or is it operational excellence? Or is it compliance? Or is it about finance? No, it’s about realising value from assets. There are many ‘behind the scenes’ functions that are often overlooked, but are essential to ensure success of an asset management program. Identifying and understanding the needs of these functions is a key element in your asset management journey. Scott will share how ISO 55000 has been applied beyond just Asset Management for Operations and Supply, allowing Sanofi SCO to bring their organizational functions into alignment. Scott Morris is the global process owner for asset management, work management and MRO inventory management. Additional responsibilities include system owner of the corporate Enterprise Asset Management system. He is also the Vice Chairman of the US delegation for the development of the ISO 55000 series documents on Asset Management.

Slashing Mean Time to Repair by Making Maintenance and Reliability Improvement the New Religion

Transdev WA is Perth’s largest bus company operating and maintaining a fleet of approximately 560 buses covering more than 31 million route kilometres and servicing nearly 33 million journeys each year. Hear how Brad transformed Maintenance managers, supervisors and team members who were demonstrating difficulty in stepping back from “hands-on” maintenance to focus on the management and improvement activities required to ensure a productive workforce and improve bus reliability. By implementing enhanced, targeted training and mentoring together with the implementation of a new CMMS, Mean Time to Repair has been halved and planning schedules can now be accurately predicted to a period of weeks rather than hours.

How Engineers Will Learn and Adapt in a Changing World

Stephen will show you how the engineers of tomorrow want to learn and how their education will be shaped by science. Stephen is the world’s leading authority on learning styles. He has worked with some of the world largest companies, showing them how to integrate technology with learning and education. An example includes working with Ford (UK) to analyze through MRI scanning and scientific research the educational tools and teaching methods which resonate most with different levels of hierarchy and parts of the supply chain. His groundbreaking work led him to be hired by the British Olympic Team to identify and implement the learning styles to deliver optimum performance.
