Which Maintenance Scorecard Is Best: Simple, Pyramid or Full Audit?

Mainstream Posted on March 16, 2018 by stephanie.sandbrook@theeventfulgroup.comApril 14, 2021

Scorecards offer an easy way to track and evaluate maintenance effectiveness. They give a quick picture of your capability and help you to effectively target areas for improvement. They are also an important tool to help justify obtaining additional resources for your mission to achieve continuous improvement. But not all scorecards are the same. There are many different kinds of scorecards, each with different levels of detail included. So which scorecard should you use for your organisation? We are going to compare three different scorecards: Simple, Pyramid, and Full Audit below. But before we look at the selection, here are some questions to ask yourself before you choose which scorecard is right for you, and to help establish parameters around which they will be used. How many metrics do I need? How long will it take to score? What resources are available to score? Automated reports Self-scored reports Manual reports For most of the scorecards we used at Monsanto, we developed software that extracted the data from SAP so we knew everybody was measuring in the exact same way. Wherever possible the data should be pulled with a push of a button so that scores are calculated in the same way for multiple locations. How often will we measure? Establish the optimal frequency (weekly, monthly, quarterly or annually) based on the metrics you are measuring. Who is my target audience? Can the scorecards be rolled up into one score? You don’t want to have disjointed reporting from multiple scorecards. Wherever … Continue reading →

Video: Planning for Failures: Using a Toothbrush to Repair a Space Station

Mainstream Posted on June 21, 2016 by stephanie.sandbrook@theeventfulgroup.comApril 14, 2021

NASA’s International Space Station is a unique off-world research laboratory where out of this world science is conducted every day. It is also a remote outpost in space that requires reliable hardware and software, reliable maintenance and logistics planning, and well-trained crews, operators, and engineers to work through contingencies. So, what does NASA have to do with your own maintenance and reliability challenges? More than you might think. The methods used by the leadership laboratory that is Mission Control for managing this unique spacecraft can be directly mapped to management of your operations and assets. This even includes using a toothbrush to save a spacewalk. Ed Van Cise, NASA’s International Space Station Flight Director, gave a keynote address at Mainstream Conference 2016. Download this video to discover: How NASA plans for International Space Station logistics, supportability, and maintainability. Insights into the operational models and mindsets being used to execute those plans as well as how to respond when the plans change or simply do not work. How the culture and methodology for Flight Operations has been an enabler for mission success in over 50 years of human spaceflight. Fill in the form below to download the video of Ed’s Keynote address at Mainstream Conference 2016.
