ROBOTS TO REVOLUTIONISE MAINTENANCE

Inspired from nature and wildlife, Nottingham University and Rolls Royce will showcase their world-renowned work in developing robots capable of inspection and repair in the most confined spaces.

COBRA, sounding like something from a superhero movie, but is actually a long, thin, remote-controlled robot with augmented reality and repair capabilities, moves through engines to give engineers a snake’s eye view through a VR platform. You’ll meet the SWARM bug robots that crawl through engines, capturing images. They operate in a swarm, scurrying to different corners of the engine. They take the images, piece them together, to gain an incredibly detailed view of the inside of an engine.

THE ROBOTS ARE COMING (BUT...)

The Asset Management, Maintenance and Reliability Workforce is about to be dramatically transformed by Automation. But this is not apocalyptic. Because the machines won’t have it all their way. Jobs are going, jobs are changing, and jobs are coming.

How will emerging tech impact us in the next 2, 5 and 10 years? What critical skills do I need to develop in my workforce? What new roles will I need to add to my workforce? How could technology augment my current workforce? How can I identify potential redeployment of my internal roles to in-demand skills? And how do we transition painlessly, productively, and happily?
